Oklahoma West Water Vapor

This satellite image displays the lower-level water vapor wavelength band (band 10) of the three water vapor bands from the GOES-16 satellite. The water vapor depicted by this particular band is typically at a pressure level around 700 millibars (approximately 10,000 feet). With sufficient surface- based convection, dry air (oranges/reds) at this level can often be translated to the surface, resulting in very low relative humidity and increased fire danger. The map, useful during day or night, has a spatial resolution of 2 km with a central wavelength of 7.3 microns. This image is provided by the College of DuPage and is updated every 5 minutes.
